Still restless: Lesotho former Defence Force chief Mahao injured in shooting

Mahao was taken away by Lesotho defense force members after the incident.

THE commander of Lesotho’s defence force, Maaparankoe Mahao, was shot Thursday, the opposition Basotho National Party said.

Mahao was in Mokema, his home village, when the attack happened, BNP spokesman Machesetsa Mofomobe said in a Facebook posting. Mahao was taken away by Lesotho defense force members after the shooting, he said.

Mahao was promoted to commander of the army by former Prime Minister Tom Thabane in August, after Thabane dismissed Tlali Kamoli from the post and accused him of trying to topple the government.

Kamoli was reinstated by the new government led by Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili.
